Thulium-doped silica-based optical fibers for cladding pumped fiber amplifiers

چکیده
We present preparation and spectroscopic characterization of the Tm-doped fibers with enhanced 3H4 fluorescence lifetime thanks to codoping with alumina. With the alumina content of 10 mol %, the fluorescence lifetime of 58 s was achieved. Using experimentally obtained fiber characteristics, we used numerical simulations to study and optimize for the first time the thulium-doped fiber amplifier (TDFA) with dual wavelength (800 + 1400 nm) pumping scheme where the pump at 800 nm propagates in the cladding and the other pump propagates in the core. The results are compared with numerical simulations of TDFA pumped at single-wavelength in the 1050 nm band. © 2001 Elsevier Science. All rights reserved

Exploiting the short wavelength gain of silica-based thulium-doped fiber amplifiers.
Short wavelength operation (1650-1800 nm) of silica-based thulium-doped fiber amplifiers (TDFAs) is investigated. We report the first demonstration of in-band diode-pumped silica-based TDFAs working in the 1700-1800 nm waveband. Up to 29 dB of small-signal gain is achieved in this spectral region, with an operation wavelength accessible by diode pumping as short as 1710 nm. Further gain extensi...

Silica-based thulium-doped fiber devices operating around 810 nm would extend the spectral range covered by highpower fiber devices. Using a comprehensive numerical model of the fiber we have shown that efficient lasing at 810 nm can be achieved for specific ranges of the laser cavity parameters in silica-based thulium-doped fibers with enhanced 3 H4 lifetime up to 58 !s as measured in our high...

متن کاملTowards the short - wavelength limit lasing at 1450 nm over 4 I 13 / 2 → 4 I 15 / 2 transition in silica - based erbium - doped fiber Nan
The transition rate of the stimulated emission at the higher energy levels of the excited states in a silica-based erbium-doped fiber can be enhanced by introducing fundamental-mode cutoff filtering mechanism. The electrons excited by optical pumping can more occupy the higher energy levels of the excited states when the transition rate for the lower energy levels (longer wavelengths) of the ex...
متن کاملA Monolithic Thulium Doped Single Mode Fiber Laser with 1.5ns Pulsewidth and 8kW Peak Power
Here we report a compact monolithic 2000nm pulsed laser with a single spatial mode output, ~1.5ns pulse duration, 8kW peak power and >200mW average power at 20 kHz repetition rate. The gain-switched laser, consisting of a pair of fiber Bragg gratings and 0.5m of thulium-doped single cladding fiber, was core pumped by a high peak power pulsed 1.5 m laser. When the input pulse energy of the 20 kH...
